October 2022 Gigabit Broadband Update

Posted on 23rd October, 2022

Good evening everybody! I know it has been a while since the last update, however after the pausing of the voucher scheme in Surrey, most of the time after then was spent chasing voucher validations for the Phase 2 East and Phase 2 North projects. I have been assured by BT that we have done enough for these phases to pass into delivery.

Openreach, bless their cotton socks, are not the best at providing updates. The impression I get is that they are overwhelmed with projects. The latest update I received on Phase 1, which is the most advanced project, is that completion is due to take place by June 30th 2023. I was due to get a an October update on progress so far, however the Project Manager has no news to report at the moment.

In summary - as a reminder, here is where we are with regards to the (5x) original schemes...

Phase 1 - In Openreach Delivery Phase - No news yet on the progress of the project, however it is due to be complete by June 30th 2023.

Phase 2 (East) - Project Cancelled. This is due to the fact that houses in this project were connected to the Aldershot Exchange which is due to be upgraded anytime after 2024.

Phase 2 (North) - In Openreach Delivery Phase. No scheduled date for work to be completed - however I will keep the community updated on progression.

Phase 2 (East) - In Openreach Delivery Phase. No scheduled date for work to be completed - however I will keep the community updated on progression.

Phase 2 (South) - Not yet Submitted. - We cannot move forward yet as the scheme has been paused in Surrey. There is news that the voucher scheme will be carried on into 2023 with the vouchers carrying a greater value. As soon as the voucher scheme is live again, we will submit the application.

Note that updating the blog is quite a time intensive task, therefore I want to use a better mechanism to provide updates when work gets underway and as an when I receive updates & news. For this reason I have created a Twitter account. I have created a Twitter account called "Normandy Gigabit Broadband Project". The twitter handle is @NormandyGigabit so please, if you use Twitter, please follow this account in order to get more regular updates on what is happening with the scheme in the community. I will promise to tweet as often as I can!

Blog updates will be less regular.

Hi Amos, do you have any insight as to whether phase 1 is still on track for June? Best. Jules
